VIBRAPHONIST WARREN WOLF RETURNS WITH PIANO MASTER EDWARD SIMON
Another NVJS favorite of the past 13 years is returning to kick off our Art of the Duo series-within-a-series. He has chosen as his cohort the celebrated Venezuelan-born pianist Ed Simon, his colleague in the SFJAZZ Collective.
Warren Wolf progressed from early training in classical music, through ragtime, and modern jazz. He has applied his talent to multiple instruments, being highly sought as a pianist and as a drummer in his native Baltimore. Today, Warren is one of the most influential vibraphonists in the world of jazz.
“An artist of immense ability and taste.” – Frank Alkyer, Downbeat
“Purity of tone, expressive chordal capabilities, fleet runs, nuanced articulation, and a unique exoticism allow the vibes to lead or fit in whether the material is be-bop or ballads.” – Elliott Simon, New York City Jazz Record
Edward Simon, a native of Venezuela, has made a name for himself over decades in America as a jazz improviser, composer-arranger, and band leader. Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ed is on the faculties of the SF Conservatory of Music and the California Jazz Conservatory and is Resident Artist at the Brubeck Institute. Simon, a Yamaha artist, has recorded 15 albums as a leader or co-leader.
“Simon is less talked about than many other important jazz pianists from the Caribbean and South America, but he may be the most complete creative artist among them.” – JazzTimes
