Mike Greensill remembers fondly the Golden Age of New York Jazz, when scores of clubs, bars, and cafés offered the best in swinging music. Legendary saxophonists
Al Cohn & Zoot Sims held court at a little place on the Lower West Side called the Half Note Café, offering their special brand of harmonies and interplay. Mike has long wanted to recreate that scene for NVJS, and has chosen two of the Bay Area’s best saxmen, Charlie McCarthy and Joe Cohen, backed by the ever-swinging Mr. G and two of his favorite rhythm section cohorts.
