Mike’s band is All-Star quality and you’ll love their interplay and sound. All dedicated to celebrating both Ellington’s music, and the late Bruce Hopewell – whose idea it was to honor Duke in his birth month of April.
After graduating in 1972 from Leeds College of Music in England, Mike toured Europe and the Far East and lived in Hong Kong for 4 years before finally settling in San Francisco, in 1977. He’s very well traveled!
Widely known as musical director to acclaimed vocalist Wesla Whitfield with whom he has recorded twenty albums, Mike is also resident piano player on the weekly Public Radio show, “West Coast Live.” As an arranger, he has written for big bands and symphony orchestras including the Boston Pops and the San Francisco Symphony. Some serious chops!
And a terrific band performing for “The Duke!”
